In manual therapy, practitioners use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints in an attempt to decrease back pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction.

A treatment that healthcare providers use for pain and movement issues associated with myofascial trigger points. With this technique, a provider inserts thin needles into or near your trigger points. The needles stimulate your muscles, which causes them to contract or twitch. This helps relieve pain and improve your range of motion.

WE TREAT THE PAIN                  ON YOUR               NECK AND BACK

What causes your back pain?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical help or miss work. Back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide according to Mayo Clinic. Back pain can range from a muscle aching to a shooting, burning or stabbing sensation. Also, the pain can radiate down a leg. Bending, twisting, lifting, standing or walking can make it worse.

The cause of low back pain can be from poor posture, repetitive movement with wrong body mechanic, sport injury, car accident, lifting, etc and with a sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, it's safe to say that most of us these days suffer at least one form of low back pain at some point of our lives.

What causes your neck pain?

Sitting down in front of the computer 8 hours a day, looking at the phone in the meantime can aggravate the neck pain. Most neck pain is associated with poor posture combined with age-related wear and tear. Unless you suffered a car accident or fall, some simple changes in your daily routine may help reducing your neck pain: use good posture, take frequent breaks from a prolonged sitting, reading, adjust your desk, chair and computer level, use a small pillow when sleeping, and stay active.

If you were in a car accident, the chances are you had some level of whiplash. The injury called whiplash can be also caused by playing sports, falling, or physical abuse and in case of car accident, whiplash can usually happen in the rear-end accident.

The symptoms can vary:

Neck pain and stiffness.
Pain that gets worse with neck movement.
Loss of range of motion in the neck.
Headaches, most often starting at the base of the skull.
Tenderness or pain in the shoulder, upper back or arms.
Tingling or numbness in the arms.
Tiredness.
Dizziness.

While the symptoms can get better over time, it is highly recommended to consult a healthcare professional for the above symptoms to get a accurate diagnosis.

Since our major nerve bundles are within neck and spine, a high velocity thrust manipulation such as cracking and bending can be potentially dangerous.

How do we help you with your neck pain and back pain?

At FIT IN MOTION physical therapy, we strive to bring the improvement on your condition using evidence-based physical therapy technique. As much as we believe in what the school has taught, we also believe in the new proven techniques, devices, approaches, and methods. Our physical therapists will use all the knowledge and innovative methods we have compiled over the years for you and will educate you so that you can continue the active and independent life while preventing injuries along the way.

-Manual Therapy : You will have one on one time with our licensed physical therapist so that he/she can perform a hands-on therapy using devices, equipment, or their hands.

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) Description of Advanced Specialty Practice (DASP) (2018), orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) is defined as: “an advanced specialty area of physical therapy practice that is based on manual examination and treatment techniques integrated with exercise, patient education, and other physical therapy modalities to address pain, loss of function, and wellness.

As mentioned above, we use our manual therapy time to learn more about you and your lifestyle so that we can educate you to make necessary changes in your daily life activities as needed.

-Therapeutic exercise :  Usually the manual therapy is followed by therapeutic exercise. We understand that you are getting physical therapy to go back to where you were: to continue the usual daily life activities, to enjoy recreational activities etc.  So basically, you need to move your own body to slowly reeducate the correct body mechanism for rehabilitation.
To ensure the efficacy of all the therapeutic exercises, we use more innovative and tested and proven exercise techniques. Also by bringing in new exercise methods such as soft kettle bell exercise, pilates reformer exercise, pilates chair and barrel exercise, swedish ladder, spine corrector, etc.
